GO WILDACTS!
On November 15, our "Helpful Hands and Helpful Hearts" speakers, Julie Morris (with her dog, Lucy) and Raylene Wallace (with her dog, Boo) ended our theme of community service with a BIG SPLASH! They presented to our little Wildcats about the importance of therapy and service dogs. They explained that sometimes we need assistance and dogs with special training can provide us with much needed support.
Julie read to our students the book, "AJ the Three-Legged Dog Goes Hiking" discussing all of the things that tripod (three-legged dogs) are able to do.
Raylene and Boo showed the students a few tricks that Boo has learned like shake, high five, roll over, stand, and spin. Raylene said that Boo knows around 25 different tricks.
To top it off, each student had the opportunity to pet Lucy and Boo at the end of the session.
Thank you, Julie and Raylene, for educating our students about the different ways in which dogs (and other animals) can be helpful to us. Having Lucy and Boo as our guests definitely brightened everyone's day (including the adults)!
Fifth graders have spent the last two weeks learning about the history and importance of Veterans Day. They read the book America's White Table by Margot Theis Raven and Mike Beeny. Students set up a white table to honor our veterans and added the names and pictures of veterans they knew. They learned about Danny Perterson and walked over to look at the mural painted in his memory. Fifth graders were excited to be able to go to the parade on November 11th to show their support. Thank you to all our Veterans!

Today, Dr. Nikki Meerpohl presented to our little Wildcats about the importance of keeping our eyes healthy by going to the eye doctor. She explained that some people need help seeing up close and some people need help seeing at a distance. If people have difficulty seeing, eye doctors can help us by giving us different lenses that help us see better.
Dr. Meerpohl also showed the students an eye chart that we might read with numbers, letters, or pictures when we come see the eye doctor. That information helps the eye doctor determine how well we can see things.
She explained the iris part of the eye and then had the students look at a classmate's eyes to determine the color. Then she demonstrated how the pupil part of the eye functions by using a flashlight.
Dr. Meerpohl also read, "Maisy Goes to the Eye Doctor" to the students which is always a big hit! Thank you, Dr. Meerpohl and all of our doctors, physician's assistants, specialists, etc. who help all of us with our health and well-being. All of you are constantly serving others!
